Today is a day to ‘Honor Our Forefathers’
We as On gwa hon weh women are the connection to the Earth. Like Mother Earth, we are held in high esteem as we give the gift of life. Therefore, we have the responsibility for the future of our Nations. As a matron, we are head of the clan and because of it, our children will follow our bloodline giving them a clan and a nation at birth. Some of our women have a powerful responsibility throughout the Nations such as our Clan Mothers. As women, we have the nurturing responsibilities to Mother Earth to sustain life and care for our foods and medicines. We remain the titleholders to the land and continue to be respected through the decision making process of politics within tradition. For this, we have the longest Matriarchal System.
Our Forefathers have tried a variety of forms and systems with that outside world. As a result establishing Treaties and Alliances as we traded amongst other Nations extending from the east to the west utilizing symbols of power. Such are the “Two Row Wampum and the Silver Covenant Chain” guaranteeing our relationship as a Sovereign Nation. Treaties are made because of the need for mutual understanding and agreement and relate to Peace and Friendship. Our relationship with the Crown is legal and binding and still in affect. This is why the Treaties must be honored, respected and enforced. They do not become “null and void” because you choose to ignore them. The Honor of the Crown is as stake. This is an International Matter and Concerns all of us. These injunctions served against our people are an abuse of process. It threatens the Peace.
In 2006, Justice David Marshall’s injunction with regards to Caledonia was overturned. Brantford sits on the Haldimand Tract; therefore, their announcement of an injunction should be overturned as well. These illegal persecutions on our people need to stop as we are merely honoring our roles to Mother Earth!
Nya weh
Always, Jacqueline
